2022 Kia Niro Prices, Reviews, and Pictures

The compact crossover 2022 Kia Niro features a fuel-efficient hybrid model and a plug-in hybrid model. The attractive design and shape of the 2022 Kia Niro offer excellent interior and cargo space.

The Kia Niro, a small station wagon, is a rare breed. It could also be called a small crossover SUV. The Niro is a small crossover SUV that can be used in hybrid or plug-in hybrid vehicles. Its compact size and spacious interior make it an attractive vehicle. The wheelbase is the same as that of the mechanically identical Hyundai Ioniq but it’s 4.5 inches shorter overall. It is also taller that the Ioniq, and the most well-known hybrid on market, the Toyota Prius. The Niro’s more boxy shape allows for plenty of interior space. Because of its fuel efficiency, small size, and admirable versatility, the Niro is an excellent choice for couples.

Pricing and Trims

There are five trim levels for the 2022 Kia Niro: LXS SE (LXS), LXS SE (LXS SE), Touring SE (EX Premium), and LXS SE (LXS). Three trim levels are available for the Niro Plug-In Hybrid: LXS (EX), EX Premium (EX Premium). These trims were not priced or detailed at the time this review was written. A separate review will be made about the Kia Niro Electric Vehicle.

Although the Hybrid EX Premium model is most popular, we prefer the Hybrid LXS. We will explain.

Hybrid LX

Entry-level Niro Hybrid LX starts from $25,865 and includes a $11,175 destination fee. The car comes standard with 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and halogen headlights. There is also a tilt-and telescoping steering column, a driver’s information display of 4.2 inches, a cargo area lighting, and a manually adjustable driver seat. A standard feature is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity.

Hybrid LXS

The Hybrid LXS ($27 265) is a variation on the LX. It features unique 16-inch alloy wheels, leather-wrapped shifter knob and steering wheel, as well as a smart key that includes push-button, remote, panic alarm and liftgate unlock functions. You also get a variety of driver assistance features with the trim. We recommend the LXS because it offers more safety and convenience features.

Hybrid LXS S SE

The Hybrid LXSSE ($28,765) adds features and options to the LXS trim. You will find a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat with powerlumbar support, leather seats and LED interior lighting.

Hybrid Touring SE

The Touring SE (31,065) allows the Niro to move in a sporty direction. It features 18-inch alloy wheels, front and rear projection fog lights, as well as rear LED combination lights. It has a 7 inch driver’s information display and stitching at the armrests. The seats are made of synthetic leather, not cloth. It features a touchscreen of 10.25 inches with navigation.

Hybrid EX Premium

The EX Premium model is the most expensive. The base price is $33,165 and the synthetic leather front seats can be heated or ventilated. The heated leather-wrapped steering wheels are also included.

Performance and Engine

Two powertrain options are available for the Kia Niro. The conventional hybrid features a 1.6-liter four cylinder engine and an electric motor. The system horsepower is 139 HP. A six-speed automatic transmission is an integral part of the hybrid powertrain. The plug-in hybrid uses the same engine-motor-transmission combination but adds a larger-capacity 8.9-kWh lithium-ion hybrid battery. The battery pack is expected to provide 26 miles of electric-only driving range, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The powertrain of the Hyundai Ioniq is almost identical to that of the Kia Niro. The Toyota Prius, on the other hand, is powered by a 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an continuously variable automatic transmission and an electric motor to produce 121 horsepower. Although these vehicles are fuel-efficient, they don’t offer much excitement.

The interior of the Kia Niro is pleasant and modest. The Niro is more functional than extravagant thanks to its North Star of high-efficiency. It is larger in dimensions than the Toyota Prius or Hyundai Ioniq. The Niro’s upright posture allows for a better command of the road. The Niro can carry five people, but it is more comfortable for four. There is plenty of room to stretch out and allow for long road trips. All models have dual-zone climate control for extra comfort.

The average cargo space for this class is 19.5 cubic feet behind the rear seats. This cargo volume can be increased to 54.5 cubic feet if the back seats are folded down. Similar capacities are offered by the Ioniq and Prius hatchbacks.
