2022 Kia Sportage Prices, Reviews, and Pictures

While there are many capable compact SUVs out there, the Kia Sportage is a surprise with its quiet competence and a touch of premium-ness. The Sportage is worth considering because it has a great infotainment and plenty of interior space.

Overview

The compact SUV segment is one of the most difficult in the car industry. How does the Kia Sportage fit in all this chaos? It does almost everything well. You can drive it and nothing will surprise you. It doesn’t have any eye-popping 10/10 ratings. The Sportage is a reliable vehicle that delivers solid numbers and provides comfort when behind the wheel. Its thirsty engine and outdated styling are the two main negatives. They were last updated for the 2017 model year.

Pricing and Trims

There are four trim levels for the Kia Sportage: LX Nightfall, EX and SX Turbo. All models come standard with front-wheel drives, with an option for all-wheel drive. The most popular model is the base LX, and it’s also our favorite. We’ll tell you why.

LX

Base LX models start at $25,265. The base LX model starts at $25,265. For safety, there is forward-collision-avoidance assist, lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and driver attentiveness alert. The new LX Value Edition package ($2,255), adds 18-inch darkened wheels, push-button starting, heated front seats and a power-adjustable driving seat. Dual-zone climate control is also available. This is our favorite combination of features, price and value in the lineup.

Nightfall

Nightfall ($29,265) is an upgrade to the “S” trim and includes upgraded 18-inch alloy wheels, fog lamps, roof rails and roof rails, LED interior lighting and illuminated vanity mirrors. Synthetic leather seats are also available. The Nightfall model has a power-adjustable driver seat, a flat bottom steering wheel, a rear USB port and heated power-folding exterior mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators. The package also includes a rear cross-traffic and blind spot warning system, as well as blacked out body trim.

EX

The Nightfall EX (29,565) has a similar design but with a darker trim. The EX ($29,565) adds heated front seats, heated exterior doors, dual-zone climate control and SmartKey with push button start and immobilizer. It also includes a leather-wrapped steering and shift knob and a gloss black center console.

SX Turbo

The top-of-the-line SX Turbo ($34.925) features a 240-hp turbo engine and a six speed automatic transmission. 19-inch wheels and paddle shifters on the steering wheel add sporty flair. Leather seats, a power-adjustable front seat, ventilated seats, an electronic parking brake and LED headlights and fog lights are just a few of the other features. The infotainment system includes navigation and wireless phone charging as well as a Harman Kardon audio system of 320 watts. Smart cruise with stop-and go and sensors for front and rear parking assistance are some of the safety features.

Performance and Engine

The base 2.4-liter engine of the Kia Sportage is good enough for most drivers. It is quiet and smooth, although it does roar under acceleration. If you are looking for a more sporty feeling, the optional turbo engine of 2.0-liters is worth considering. The six-speed automatic shifts easily during normal acceleration and has a great powerband when you downshift to pass. Although the suspension is soft, it can feel a little uncomfortable on bumpy roads. There are several vehicles in this segment that offer higher-powered engines. These include the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the Chevrolet Equinox, which have an upgraded 252-hp engine. The Ford Escape has the optional 2.0-liter EcoBoost.

Interior

The Kia Sportage has plenty of legroom in both the front and back, but it is a little too narrow in the second row. The second row also feels tighter because it is a bit sunken. Although the cargo space is not as large as in other segments, it is sufficient for most people. The interior styling of the Kia may seem a little bland considering that it is entering its sixth model year. This contrasts with the more stylish Mazda CX-5 and jazzy Toyota RAV4.
